Walk In Eye Exam – Does this Benefit You?
For those committed to a particular eye doctor, the thought of using a walk in eye-clinic may be as foreign a concept as abandoning their favorite sports team and randomly cheering for another.
But unlike die-hard sports fans, more and more people are doing just that.
Rather than wait or revise and reshape their own schedule to fit their doctor’s availability, many patients today prefer a provider that is flexible enough to accommodate their own busy lifestyle.
However, for small emergencies like ‘pink eye’ or a foreign body sensation in the eye, (or just a broken pair of glasses that always seems to occur when life least expects it, and is impossible to predict and schedule or the sudden realization of an exhausted supply of contact lenses ), this medical care modality may be one of the most cost effective and time-saving options available on short notice.
Advantages to Walk In Eye Exam
Walk in eye clinic facilities offer an excellent choice for issues that arise suddenly, or situations where you find yourself with some down time.
Nowadays it’s becoming increasingly difficult to schedule and plan ahead as our lives have become more hectic.
Most often walk in optometry clinics are open during the evening hours and weekends when most eye-doctor’s offices are closed.
For example, our location in Surrey Guildford Mall opens until 9pm every weekday and is staffed with a doctor 7 days a week.
So, if you find yourself with some idle time, and you’re in a mall near you, take the opportunity to indulge your eyes to some programmed maintenance. Remember how much they’ve done for you – don’t you owe them a little pampering?
Should a minor eye issue arises during inopportune hours, you may be able to avoid the public emergency room frustrations and instead visit a local walk-in Optometrist office!
At our clinics we find a large proportion of families and individuals choose to see the optometrists at the walk in clinic for regular comprehensive eye check-ups as well as for minor medical emergencies.
Wood Grove Mall Clinic – Nanaimo
The convenience of being able to see an eye doctor during regular non-business hours appeals to those who work long or unique hours.
Also, the convenience of doctor access without an appointment is especially nice for many with unpredictable schedules.
As we bill most insurance companies, their is usually no out of pocket expense, and for those without insurance, the reasonable cost for appointments at Image Optometry is is a huge advantage.
A typical walk in eye exam for a doctor’s comprehensive eye exam is $89.95 and this includes a pair of glasses or contact lenses (some conditions apply, but this covers over 95% of all prescriptions).
Disadvantages to Walk In Eye Exam
Since no office can determine how many patients will walk in throughout a typical week day, or weekend, waiting times may be unpredictable but we have been quite successful for over a quarter of a century to leave intermittent ‘holes’ in the doctor’s schedule to absorb the many walkins that we receive at our busy shopping mall locations.
Some days (like Saturday) may be busier than other days with waiting times over an hour per patient, while some days, or evenings may be comparatively slower and patients are processed almost immediately.
While the wait times only serve as a minor inconvenience, for those in a hurry, it may be best to schedule your appointments on these ‘high demand’ days like Saturdays and Sundays.
We try to staff the same medical personnel each night and weekend, but you still may be faced with seeing a different doctor every time you visit.
Those who plan to have regular check-up visits will probably want to schedule their routine visits with the same doctor if they so wish.
Many times the doctors do work on a set schedule or have a planned rotation, so it is usually possible to see the same doctor if you make an appointment.
But for those who are visiting through urgent care or injury, the doctor might probably be new every time.
At Image Optometry, we ardently value the health care of your eyes, the betterment of vision, and take every opportunity we can to reduce all impediments to easy access of your eye health and welfare.
