Donate Prescription Eyeglasses At Image Optometry!
We Donate Your Old Eyeglasses To The Third World Countries
THE GIFT OF SIGHT
For those that have recently had changes to their eyeglass prescription, or have old eyeglasses that no longer work or are just stuffed away in a drawer, don’t throw them out!
Instead, donating the old pair makes a world of difference to those with vision problems who can’t afford them.
Donated eyeglasses can be dropped off at any of the 17 Image Optometry clinics (usually in a mall near you).
You click this link to see all the Image Optometry locations.
No prescription information or accompanying eyeglass cases is necessary, as all are sent to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) to check the prescription values, classification, sorting, and ultimate distribution.
Each Image Optometry location has a drop box right by the entrance or you can give them to any of our friendly staff. If you wish to provide the gift of sight, let your glasses provide someone less fortunate second sight.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), Visual impairment due to refractive error (a need to wear glasses) was estimated to affect 161 million people globally in 2002. The fact that all of these people’s fate can be easily corrected simply with a pair of glasses is the objective of many charitable organizations like the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC), The David Suzuki Foundation, or your local Rotary club.
Your donated glasses can have immediate and long-term consequences in children and adults, such as lost educational and employment opportunities, lost economic gain for individuals, families, societies, and immediate remediation of an impaired quality of life.
Image Optometry working in conjunction with these aforementioned organizations, including our long support of such endeavors as the “Raise a Reader” initiative, has a long been a volunteer collector of used glasses.
Glasses are turned in to our collection boxes at any of our locations, then are recycled and donated to needy people worldwide.
These collection boxes are owned by the Canadian Lion’s Club Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC), who collects and forwards the used glasses to the Calgary Corrections Centre, where they are processed. There they are sorted, cleaned, fitted with new prescriptions, packaged and distributed throughout the world.
If you wish to donate your used eyeglasses and help someone less fortunate, please stop by or contact Image Optometry: Questions@Image.ca or call us at 604-685-EYES (3937) for more information.
Thank you for your help in giving the gift of sight!
